Afridi five-for lids Pakistan win
Cricket News Player Of The Week is Shahid Afridi (Pakistan)
Pakistani bowler leg-spinner and Captain BOOM BOOM Shahid Khan Afridi has been named as the Cricket News Player of the Week when he took nine wickets and steered his side to two Cricket World Cup 2011 victories.
Afridi form with the ball and leadership have been two key factors in Pakistan making a winning start to the opposition by beating Kenya and Sri Lanka.
Beside Kenya, Pakistan conquered the match, scoring 313/7 - Afridi making fair seven - and then bowling their foes out for 112 with Afridi pleasing for 16/5. In the progression, he seized the best figures by a Pakistani at a World Cup and the best figures by a World Cup captain against Kenya.
After those 3 days later, Pakistan was back in action and faced an ample stricter test when Sri Lanka came up beside them. Pakistan batting first again Sri Lanka, they scored 277/7, Afridi making a swift 16 runs only.
Once more, he shined with the ball, returning figures of 34/4 by taking the important wickets of Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara, Thilan Samaraweera, and Angelo Mathews.
Pakistan then held on to win by 11 runs although a twilight Sri Lankan control, led by Nuwan Kulasekara.
Other candidates for the weekly award included India's Sachin Tendulkar, England's Andrew Strauss and Tim Bresnan, Pakistan's Younus Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq, the Netherlands' Ryan ten Doeschate, South Africa's AB de Villiers and Australia's Mitchell Johnson.
